How important are relationships in the workplace? Can people be
trained to be better at relationships?
The answers are "very very very" and "yes." Even with increased
communications by e-mail and with people working in offices without walls,
relationship development and maintenance is crucial to success. Since we
focus on relationship behavior and on modifying it, training in relationship
enhancement is definitely possible.
How do you assess and treat relationship problems in the
workplace?
Examples of relationship skills areas we evaluate and treat include the
following:
** Shyness
** Rapport building
** Social Phobia
** Handling inappropriate behaviors
** Likeability
** Assertiveness and directness
** Containing aggressive, hostile feelings
** Tact and diplomacy
** Public speaking limitations
** Friendliness/business boundaries
** Engendering trust
** Empathic listening
